Odyssey

..The story of a lightning strike..

..and my first successful project..

In 1978 I saw it on the only television channel that was broadcasting at that time, RAI 1.

The 1968 RAI Odyssey is a television miniseries starring Bekim Fehmiu as Ulysses and Irene Papas as Penelope. It was directed by Franco Rossi with Piero Schivazappa and Mario Bava, the latter entirely directed the episode of Polyphemus who also worked on special effects together with Carlo Rambaldi. A Cult.

I was fascinated, as if hypnotized. That Vision unleashed in me a real passion for the Odyssey and Ulysses, the first man who dared to challenge the Gods.

In the Finale of Homer is present, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful dialogues between a man and a woman.

A Man who travels for the thirst of knowledge for 20 years and a Woman waiting for him, resisting everything.

That final dialogue, '' The Test', reaches very high peaks, and corresponds perfectly to our temperaments, all can be recognized in Ulysses and Penelope.

I wanted this project very much, and I am glad to have it born, 45 years after my first vision.

I began by transcribing the text of the Dialogue, transforming it from Text to Audio, narrated by the Actors' Artificial Voices, in English: Penelope, Athena, Homer, Ulysses.

I imported the Audio into my music production system and started composing it and I put my hands in my hair..

how to make the emotionality of individual characters in dialogue, how to use suitable instruments, compose musical lines that connect without sormote them, to the poetic dialogue, without doing the usual musical narration, banal, obvious? How to make it even current, to be heard by a varied audience and not the usual ''whine"? And the inspiration guided me.

I composed the musical line, synchronizing to the tenth of a second to the vocal narration. 

It was beautiful. 

Then i imported the audio file containing voices and music on my video editing program and I created the text subtitled in Italian, to do justice to the poetics of Homer, and I began to search for images constestualized, suitable, emotional, merging them, Melting them, even evoking them.

It was a grueling but exciting job.

Finally, after the last few adjustments that perhaps only a passionate and critical eye will be able to see, the project has had its birth and I launched it on Youtube, without waiting for much in reality.. and instead I was surprised by its reception, the results but especially the comments and contacts that I received.. Schools, Universities, Museums, Artists.

This work has determined my decision to propose myself to a wider audience, making available my sensibility skills, technical equipment and training, to make it a shared passion, a job. A Job to choose from.
